Forbid TV drug commercials /and require financial disclosures from doctors

As a doctor, I can tell you there’s already a requirement for Doctors to report everything that they receive from drug companies. However I totally agree with banning pharmaceutical commercials !

I also think advertising costs for drugs on public airwaves should be non deductible by drug companies for tax purposes.

Big pharma buys ads on major TV networks which in turns inhibits investigations as to effectiveness and possible problems with the drug.

This is a great idea  . It is amazing how many ads we see just watching TV at night as a family. This is a conversation for medical professionals and patients to have.

This is a great way to finally put the nail in the coffin and Crush the Legacy Media. Most of their ad revenue comes from big Pharma. Without that ad revenue most of them will have to shut their doors.

I would go this 1 better. ALL HOSPITALS should giv all bills with ICD-10 and CPT codes. FURTHER, they should give ranges for pricing! Hospitals are setup to BANKRUPT people, and this HAS to stop! ALSO, future changes they know about MUST be declared!

You are a mind reader!! I actually heard one on the radio today. Made me think of Al Gore talking about this but it never happened. The lobbying power is the problem. The creatures from the black lagoon are whores for big pharma. Worse, their bucks keep the ministry of disinformation afloat!

Yes. I fully agree. Even my children notice this. My 6 year old daughter told me to write in and ask that drug commercials be banned from T.V. I wonder how the last remaining T.V, stations will survive without the drug ads but I believe it is more necessary that they be disallowed.

We don’t need advertisements for pharmaceuticals - instead we need lower prescription costs. Have them take that money to reduce prices and reassign it to R&D.

Yes. All of it. No direct advertising of any kind from pharma!

This was what I came to say too! No more direct advertisements from pharma to the public!

They get an incentive for them as well as certain types of treatments. The real issue with our healthcare is that we are a not a wellness based system but a sick based system and no one truly gets cured for a reason. RFK isn’t wrong about that. Also Make public what doctors are paid to not prescribe medications like opioids for pain management.

I believe that vaccine commercials should also be banned.

I didn’t expect to have a differing opinion. I thought we wanted less government, not more; more individual responsibility, not less; more free speech, not less. I have no problem with pharmaceutical commercials as long as they are factual. I’ve seen commercials for drugs that I researched and the results of that research has varied but it’s up to me to research. If I wasn’t able to research, I would ask my doctor and rely on him to advise me. We have a doctor-patient relationship.

I saw some comments that viewers at home weren’t qualified to evaluate the information about the drug. I disagree. I can evaluate if I want to research it, ask my doctor about it or just forget about it. Someone else noted that they call out the side effects too fast. Having participated in clinical trials I can tell you that if you are in a trial for dry eyes drops and you said that you were feeling irritable or you have a blister on your toe, that goes down as a side effect. That’s government regulation. True side effects get lost.

I also don’t think doctors should have to disclose anything about how much money they make. It might be acceptable to disallow pharma companies to compensate based on # of prescriptions written.

Bryan raises important questions but they are part of a larger issue with more subtle parts.

Stop the advertising of drugs on TV and other media. We stopped advertising of tobacco, so why not stop the advertising of pharma drugs which are just as dangerous, if not more. In addition, because pharma lines the pockets of media companies, the media will never, ever, do an honest expose on pharma. Stop the advertising… stop the money flow… reign in pharma!

This!!! The amount of ads for drugs on TV is crazy. My own Dr. told me she had a patient come in asking for “XYZ” drug, and she said “I don’t know what that is”. She had to look it up and research the drug.

Agree. Stop trying to get patients to tell the DR. what drug to give them.
