End property taxes!

I have been saying this to my husband for YEARS!!! Why are we paying for something we already own?!! and you spend 30-40 years to pay your home off to only get on a fixed income when you retire and lose it because they keep going up!! my taxes personally have skyrocketed! 5-6 years ago it was barely $500 for the year, last year I paid 2K!!!

I’m in 100% agreement with this! Once your home is paid off you should no longer have to continue to pay property taxes! Once you make your final payment for your home you should no longer have to make property tax payment, and you should own Your Land outright and be able to pass it down to future Generations tax free! Only big business, corporations, rental properties should have to pay property taxes.

Or remove property taxes on single property , single family ownership and progressively increase property taxes for those that own multiple properties, and especially institutional ownership of residential property

This topic like its sister/brother topic of federal taxes is reliant on cutting waste, cutting corrupt spending, and truly shrinking government at all levels and giving the country back to the people. America’s founding fathers never intended for ‘big government’ or a welfare state. I am praying for the right results from we the people in November that will bring real change; Eisenhower warned us (and President Kennedy) about the evils of the military-industrial and big pharma-industrial complexes before he left office. Drain the swamp! Save America!

Well, since property taxes pay for basic maintenance and operations of each county, city, town, and the school districts within, I honestly think this is necessary, HOWEVER, it should be a low, fixed, one-time amount. Instead of monthly for the life of the home. Just a thought

Exactly. I paid off my house including the sales tax when purchased but, it’s not really mine. If I don’t pay my property tax, the gov’t takes my property. So I am actually renting it
forever.

Most of our property tax goes to a Community college and the campus there is literally plastered in woke ideology. All the latest divisive rhetoric, DEI garbage on a “VIRTUOUS AND BRAVE” pedestal. We should decide if and then how much we are going to support local colleges on an individual basis, they are stealing our money to dumb down and brainwash our own culture! Required property taxes should go to roads, infrastructure, NEEDS that we all agree on, not be slush fund for woke pushing career do nothing!

Property taxes are a state issue. If you want to propose a repeal of a State’s primary revenue source, you need to propose a replacement or which services to remove. Hint - Schools rely mostly on property taxes, so how will that be funded?

Amen. Our property is never our in this current model. Taxes continue to rise and many can’t afford to stay once they retire. No more taxes.

I think if your house is paid off 100% and you are the sole deed holder, you should not have to pay property taxes. Once you pay off your mortgage, you pay off the taxes on your property forever.

All taxes are theft
we are all just learning about this.
The contracts are the kicker. When you learn ink and sig they disappear.
We need more eyes on this. We need some real strong lessons. Pay attention to the legal advocates that are coming online. We have to change this retardation of whole societies at the frass root level.

End school property taxes for Seniors. Our state ¶ gives the school boards the power to raise property taxes. They raise school property taxes 4.4% each year with a $17 million dollar budget surplus and 1,000 new homes being built which adds revenue to their bank account. If we are lucky to get a raise, its 2%, a 4.4 % tax increase takes the raise away plus another 2.4% out of our home budget. Take this power away from school boards!!!

We are a referendum state for school taxes. If a district needs extra money, they have to present their proposal to the property owners in that district and host a vote. If the vote fails, they have to try again after a certain period of time.

Property taxes are an abomination.

It’s how socialism crept into this country.

If 51% of your neighbors decide to buy the police department a tank, throw more money down the union rat-hole of public education, or build a park–you better pay up. If you don’t, government will lock you in a cage like a dog or shoot you.

Additionally, consider that you may have spent the last 45 years of your life working. You started a family, got hit hard by the crash of 2007/2008, kept working to raise your kids, got wiped out again during COVID, and now you’re 50 and struggling to get your kids out the door even though they can’t afford property or a house of their own
then at 65 with almost nothing in retirement you drop dead. What will happen to your spouse? Well
it doesn’t matter if you have a huge garden, plenty of food to eat, and solar panels to power everything
government will force your loved one out of the home and property you build over the decades. They will make her homeless. They will sell the house you built to the highest bidder.

Absolutely atrocious. Bring back allodial title. The government does NOT own the land. The people do.

I’m all for ending property taxes, as no one can truly own their home. Also, with the way the economy is going, if there’s a major economic collapse which is very likely sooner or later and people can’t even pay their property taxes, do we want to be at the mercy of the government? My concern is that may be a state-by-state issue and not a Federal one. Property tax is also a way to keep people from achieving generational wealth.
A family can spend a generation or two building up enough money to buy land.
Then, they if fall on hard times, they may lose their land due to property taxes.
This leads to the family having to rent, move in with someone else, be homeless, etc., and the ability to then build yourself back up to having wealth to own land is greatly reduced.

It’s one of the few things the US government should enforce on the states.

This is spot on!

And, thus, why property taxes need to be made illegal at the federal level.

Property taxes are the main way to keep people from building generational wealth for exactly the reason you described and more.

If people really wanted to help everyone become better off, this should be at the top of their list of being abolished from the entire country.

Renters already pay the property taxes on a property. The landlord has to make a profit, so the taxes get passed along. A “renter’s tax” would be on top of the property tax that they are already paying.

How would ending property taxes make it harder for renters? And what tax credit do you think homeowners get? I dont get any tax credit, in-fact I have a $6,000 tax burden on my property without recieving any benefits at all (I live in rural Anderson County Kansas with less than 8k people).
