Ban Pitbull-Type Dogs

I disagree.

Most responsible dog owners will say to you; its not the dog…its the owner.

The only argument you may have here is requiring adoptions/purchases to evaluate the owners as respectable choices to raise a dog and to train it right. However, then youre getting into someones life quite a bit and most people will rebuke that at all cost.

This really is NOT the breed of the dog as the issue, the owners are responsible for up bringing, care, training, and containing their pets. EVERY Pitbull I have been around is nothing but a big sack of love and devotion, EXCEPT those specifically trained to be mean and aggressive. Dog do get out of hand, ALL dogs, this breed was particularly used to breed aggressive dogs, but from birth they were mishandled and taught that. EVERY Pitbull raised as a pet has only been aggressive towards ones not permitted in the home or attackers, all other wise, nothing but amazing love and devotion from them.

The ones that become issues are raised to be mean and aggressive, for that specific purpose, I would state that doesn’t make them the greatest of owners. Raise ANY dog with compassion, love and devotion, they INSTINCTIVLY will protect WIOTHOUT training and such to “beef them up”. That is the difference between types of owners…intent.

I mean I agree. Completely.

95% of the pitbulls I have encountered are friendly and cuddly. One I encountered was my roommates rescue that had been chained to a tree. It was incredibly food aggressive, had separation anxiety, and had clearly been beaten up.

Whenever you moved quick to walk or get up, he would dart and hide. It was heartbreaking and sad, and it was clearly the person who first had the dog then abandoned it. That owner likely barely fed it which led to the food aggression and separation anxiety because that dog lived in fear their owner wouldnt come to them. So, this post asking people to not be stupid and irresponsible owners is a complex and unsolvable issue.

Thats like saying sharks are bad. If pitbulls were running rampid it would be a different story. In the US and canada there have been 307 deaths for over 30 years. You would have to come up with a way to ban them, and not have a riot with owners and that wouldnt happen. I dont even see people muzzling their pitbulls if it became mandated.

You couldn’t be farther from the truth. It seems your heart is in a good place but I think you’re misinformed.

Those dogs they are the most abused dog breed. Do you think the dogs that abusing dogs are makes them more likely or less likely to attack someone?

Their nature is not to suffer or cause suffering! That is wrong they have great temperament and are extremely loving by nature.

Ask yourself this: Would you (whomever thinks we should ban all pit bull breeds) advocate for the same with the most violent race of people? Or should we base it on the individual person? Also, if there that race of people that gets abused more than any other, happened to be the most violent in terms of attacks, would you fix it by trying to ban them from existence or by stoppingbthe abuse.

What if we learned that most of the attacks in question were in fact due to improper care? And what if those with proper care, tend to be some of the best breed out there. It seems to be the consensus with responsible pitbull owners; the people who actually live with them.

Idk, i hope this gives insight.

Then any pitbull that had been abused so should be put down before it murders someone. If we do just those few dogs in, and the number of pitbull murderers goes down to normal dog numbers, we’re all good. Don’t send some trained time-bomb to live with a family.

Don’t just give up on the pets…. Have some type of training requirement to own such dogs.

Mandatory

I respectfully disagree with banning dog breeds. I am a dog owner, and no, I don’t have Pit Bulls, but I do have a Siberian Husky, which some also label as a dangerous breed. I know dogs pretty well, and in most cases, if the dog is dangerous, look at the dog’s guardian, not the breed. Huskies are labelled as dangerous, because they have a high prey drive. It is up to me, as a Husky Guardian to make sure my Husky does not leave my yard and kill someone’s chickens, or small pets. Huskies are very friendly, and not dangerous to humans.

Maybe rewrite to hold “owners” I prefer Guardians accountable if they have one of these breeds, and do not appropriately train it, and keep it in their own yard. I would be happy to support that!

The danger in banning breeds, is it will not stop at Pit Bulls.

I’m with you as my beautiful, sweet, loving pitbull whom I get compliments all the time is laying right next to me.

When I saw this proposed policy, I teared up.

I agree. I have owned pitbulls all my life. They are very good dogs. You can not blame the dogs it is the onwers of those dogs who are to blame. Poor training. i trained my pitbulls at a very young age to not be food aggressive , while also being calm with other dogs breeds. Pitbulls are great for providing protection for kids while outside playing.

I think this is a horrible idea. For a country that preaches about our freedom regulating what animals a person can own is a just not it. I understand injury’s from dogs but there are way bigger things that we can focus on that cause a lot more deaths. I don’t think this is a topic that needs to be addressed as much as other topics.

The only reason those numbers are so inflated is because it’s the most popular reported breed! Most don’t report a chihuahua attack!!

This is just as stupid as banning “AR-style” weapons

I laughed because Ive experienced and incredibly aggressive Chiuaua (sp?) dog on multiple occasions. One bit me, and another bit my German Shepherds nose and my dog yelped and looked at me confused.

Seriously, people who have larger dogs usually are more responsible owners because of the social environment around them. I’ve seen the majority of irresponsible dog owners to small dog breeds, and I dont mean every owner with a small dog breed…
