This is ridiculous.

I’ll pass on this. I’ve owned all 4 of those breeds and none of them were aggressive. Just like kids with crappy parents turn into crap adults. The same goes with dogs.

This is ridiculous. Many times breeds are wrongly identified AND they score very well on temperment tests! Instead, ban using them for guard dogs and attack dogs! Some breeds are more ideal for these nasty jobs which should actually be banned. Unfortunately not everyone understands this. Alot of times when a bully breed is agressive its due to bad owners, or even inbreeding due to back yard breeders! Lets ban them too. Its sad people still think like this. What a shame. Chihuahuas attack more than pittys but they arent capable of as much but they are more agressive as a breed in general. Even then, i dont agree with banning any breed. Pit bull isnt a breed itself so you want to ban a whole category of breeds because of what they have been used for. Its ALMOST never their fault! That goes for all breeds.

What about pit bull mixes? How the heck would you even regulate this.

Absolutely disagree!!! We had a pit bull and she was the sweetest dog ever.

This has nothing to do with breed. Unfortunately some people that own dogs REGARDLESS of breed do not train their dogs and some owners are negligent. I believe dogs act how they are raised and/or trained. If you as a pet owner cannot have 100% confidence in your dog it shouldn’t be in public, if you as an owner cannot handle/train your dog it isn’t the right fit for YOU. No pet is born aggressive as it is a learned or later inherited trait if not corrected. We can not blame pets for their behavior if owners are not correcting it or keeping them from public at the very least.

Dumbest suggestion I’ve heard!! I work in animal rescue and I can tell you there are breeds more apt to bite. Fight or cause injury!! How about banning backyard breeders! Or better yet puppy mills. I’ve fostered many bulky breed dogs who’ve been neglected and abused and they were amazing family pets after rescue.

Let’s instead fine and punish crappy owners and breeders! Let’s castrate human sexual predators.

I’ve been attacked more by my shih-tzu than my pit.

Pit bull is not breed but rather a group of breeds. You would be banning multiple breeds. They are ā€œaggressiveā€ because they are trained or groomed to be that way by owners. It is an owner issue, not a breed issue. There should be more laws protecting pets from bad owners.

I slightly disagree. American staffs and bull terriers are very good working dogs. They are great for defense and security. Doesn’t mean they are violent. Where the issue lies is a combination of abuse and poor training by someone unqualified to do so. There’s also the worse situation where they are purposely trained for fighting. If you are not licensed, you shouldn’t be allowed to train an animal for violence. If your animal is natural aggressive, your either accept the (what should be) harsh penalties or pay for training. If you are infact a professional and you train a dog of ANY breed to be violent, you should be charged and stripped of your license.
We bred dogs of all the breeds you see for a working reason. Some of those reasons involve some level of violence. And that’s ok, as long as it’s done properly and the dog isn’t just randomly attacking people or other animals.

This is idiotic. I have 3 dogs of pitbull decent and they arent violent in any way. Its not the dog or the breed that is violent, its the breeders who made them that way

I would say instead of banning the dog breeds, because that would result in the euthanization of thousands of dogs (and if not euthanization where would the dogs go???) A better solution is to properly train your dog and socialize your dog the correct way.
In most cases it is how you treat, handle and train your dog. Also common sense if you know your dog (any breed) is not okay around other people or dogs you should not put them in that situation.
Sadly a lot of people lack common sense nowadays if you do not have the time, patience, understand that your dog is their own being and needs their own space and respecting your dog’s boundaries because they are NOT a thing they are a being, you SHOULD NOT get a dog PERIOD.
Also if your dog attacks you or someone else and you get investigate you’re not just going to come out and say I beat my dog every single day. Obviously they’re going to say they treated their dog great.

Nah. This isn’t because of the type of dog. This is because most gang related people who own dogs, choose to own pitbulls (Not all people who own pitbulls are in gangs, but most gang members own pitbulls). They train these dogs to be savages. Its not the breeds fault but the owners.

Please educate yourself on pitbulls. First of all they are a large classification of breeds. Secondly they are used for nefarious purposes sometimes and this drives up the stats. If you saw the ratio of how many pitbulls there are to attacks it would be lower than most breeds. You really want federal gov banning an entire subset of dogs? That doesn’t sound like freedom to me. And if they are banned you’re proposing euthanizing millions of these beloved pets? The only time I was bit in my vet tech career was by a golden retriever! Should we ban them too?! Knock it off with this nonsense!

I’d prefer banning certain people from owning pets than blaming a poorly trained dog based on breed.

I agree with this. There’s too much evidence that pit bulls are too dangerous in their nature. What other kind of animal breaks down doors to hunt down a toddler and maul it?
