VA Home Loan Benefit

Right now the VA Home Loan benefit isn’t that great of a benefit, other than the zero down payment. I would appreciate that the benefit is more robust, like in addition to a zero down payment, Veterans and disabled *Service Connected injury Veterans receive $200,000 - $300,000 towards a house and that includes options for land and new build/custom build situations on approved minimum FICO scores of 650.

100% agree.

“Isn’t that great a benefit”…
Are you kidding? How about let’s be grateful for what our service did for us - allowing us to purchase a home without having to come up with a down payment, and if you are using a great mortgage lender (Veterans United) you might even find out there are more.

Instead of asking for the Government to just HAND OUT $200-$300K so you can have a “custom build” or “New Build” .

Practice gratitude.

(Yes, I’m a Service Connected Veteran - VERY grateful for the benefits I receive.)

Oddly, I never used my Home Loan benefit. But, I did receive my four year Bachelors degree in Business Administration from a good public college (now a University) with no debt. I worked full time (and then some) and it took six years but the GI bill made it happen. And THAT helped get me started in a great IT career ending as a Senior VP and Director of IT for a large financial company. Would I have liked more? Sure. But we made a deal in 1963 and both I and the government kept our words.

Government benefits should not be some cash cow you milk for goodies. Not withstanding all the cash distributed in the name of Covid. I hope the next time our government will have learned its lesson.
