Why are we giving billions to private universities that don’t even have a majority American student population. Take that money and redevelop our community colleges. Add every kind of blue collar type job training. Include skin care, hair, sheet metal, chimney lining, mason, plumbing, electrical, plumbing, construction, roofing, landscaping etc. Include how to run and business, etc.
Take that money and apply it to trade schools. Trade schools are so much better and produce people who can actually do a job.
I agree Joan! There is a shortage of trade workers.
Absolutely! Mike Rowe has been trying to get people to understand this for years. Colleges/Universities, especially ivy leagues, DO NOT need our taxpayer money. Let the rich pay their own way.
In addition to previously mentioned…machine shop, wood working shop, how to be self sufficient.
I would also add animal husbandry.
The federal government operates five colleges - four military academies and the merchant marine academy. Why is the federal government sending any money to any other colleges? There are only two types of non-federal colleges - private and those owned and operated by states or local governments. Those entities should be operating on their own without subsidies from the federal government. They could follow the lead of trade schools and eliminate the 20 courses they require for graduation that have nothing to do with employment and career training and reduce the cost of a bachelors degree by 50%. Then operating those institutions would become feasible. Many could simply close up as there is really no need for the number of career preparation facilities we call colleges.
I agree. Why is there no difference between state colleges and private universities anymore? It used to be that private universities used their endowments and state universities received government funding. Check out Ohio state colleges which has always had a good system and excellent colleges.
College tuition has gotten way out of hand and that is a result of the devaluation of the USD and inflation. Fix that first with sound money and then require states to fund their own local universities and community colleges, with an emphasis on career fields associated with skills needed fir a job. And teach young people to think for themselves with critical thinking skills!
Colleges should not be receiving government money! It’s obvious that the college education of our young adults is no better than our elementary or high schools students. Most can not make change, have no life skills to even take care of themselves, let alone anyone else. Also, they need to learn how to budget their money once they have training and a job. They also could be self-employed and learn how to set up a business. Our whole education system needs to be overhauled completely!
