Regulate Land Management

Parking lots cover more than 5% of urban land, which is larger than the combined size of Rhode Island and Delaware, according to ArchDaily.com. With majority being larger than necessary or no longer in use. Large shopping centers, factories and even residential properties are left abandoned and taking up valuable land that could be used for other purposes. I believe the government should place a federal maximum amount of time that a property can be vacant before the owner is required to either use or sell. This opens up the opportunity for expansion rather than waste because as we all know, land is a limited resource. Abandoned buildings are an eye sore in towns and cities that decreases the appeal to live and travel in those areas. Abandoned buildings also attract illegal activity because they are rarely monitored. This policy will decrease criminal activity, increase community appeal and free up improperly used land to more opportunities.
