The annual salary received by members of the United States Congress in 2024 is 174,000 U.S. dollars. This has been the case since 2009. The Government Ethics Reform Act of 1989 provides an automatic cost of living adjustment increase in line with the employment cost index. Despite this, Congress has voted not to accept the annual increase since 2010 maintaining the nominal amount.
I believe most of what they do can be done from their home state using ZOOM or other software, but if they MUST live in the DC area, the home state should purchase a house, like a Governorās mansion, plus pay electric/gas/upkeep, etc., and transportation, car/car with driver/ bus/etc. for the elect person to stay in while in the DC area thereby elimination any housing/transportation costs. Then their only costs are food, entertainment, clothing, etc⦠They should be, after all, employees of the State they represent, not the Federal Government.
You get ability to gain more votes by posting liking replying to other posts and coming on so many hours per day that will increase your ability to vote
Since we are reentering into our original laws in this country, i.e. constitutional law that was put forth by our founding fathers, We the People, should require that the congress shall include the sovereign citizens of this country, before any final decision(s) are passed. And therefore, any decision or a vote, on any major decisions that affect the sovereign citizens of the Republic of the United States of American, must be included. Period.
Budgets should NOT b considered unless they CUT needless waste, and move the deficit closer to 1970s levels. Neithr Taxes nor the Debt limit should be raised. Both should be LOWERED!
Pay rate should be dependent upon the median income of either the entire nation or their constituents. If they want a pay raise then they must improve the ability of the American people to earn more.
Congress doesnt need pay raises. They use insider trading to make millions. Congress critters should not be able to trade on the stock market because it is always a conflict of interest. If that were codified into law then control over their pay would a consideration. Until then it is meaningless.
I agree - And Iāve suggested before that it should be approached this way:
Congress shall pass a balanced budget for the new fiscal year no later than 60 days prior to the end of the current fiscal year (this gives them time to deal with a potential Presidential Veto before the penalties kick in).
If Congress fails to pass a balanced budget for the entire fiscal year by the start of the fiscal year, their pay will be cut by 25% for the entire fiscal year.
This should override the 27th Amendment (No law, varying the compensation for the services of the Senators and Representatives, shall take effect, until an election of Representatives shall have intervened.).
Add to that Congress shall be prohibited from passing a law varying compensation under the 27th Amendment for 18 months (which should mean that the next election of Representatives will have taken place, thus freezing their pay levels for at least 3 years, and more importantly potentially trying to unwind the 25% pay cut early). If they pass a pay increase before failing to pass the budget, the pay increase is null and void and cannot go into effect.
Iād like to see congressional pay tied to the Consumer Price Index (CPI) and ratified by each memberās constituents. If the CPI goes up then their salaries can go up by the percentage rise in the CPI. If the CPI goes down their salary goes down by a similar amount as well. Before that happens Iād like to see Congressional staffs reduced by 25%, and Congressional salaries cut by 50% across the board.
Whatever congress gets as an increase every year social security should get the same. Congress voted themselves a 13.5% increase while seniors received a 2.5% increase!!!
