Must pass a Drug test for government benefits

You must be able to pass a drug test to receive government benefits! while I do think this could be hard and costly to enforce and there would be some gov benefits that you should still qualify for, I do think that this would save a lot of money along with encouraging a healthy lifestyle I am open to having a discussion on this and would like to see what the general public would say about this
Edit: I would also like to point out that good paying jobs do this and reserve the right to do it

I have to disagree, this would be incredibly hard to enforce and goes against our rights. They are not criminals on probation but just trying to suvive. I understand where you are coming from though.

This is not cost effective and most of the time you end up punishing the children, totally disagree

I strongly feel drug testing should be present considering you are getting a benefit from the government, also it should be respected as that. You should be trying to improve your situation and eventually not need the benefits ( put your big boy/girl pants on). As people say. Plus side also you can get a well paid job to afford the necessary items in life. With that said if good paying jobs require drug testing than benefits should definitely require drug testing. #improveyourlife.

to make this argument that it goes against your rights would also mean that food stamps would be a fundamental right. just curios if that’s what you believe? this not meant in a derogatory way just curious as to how people thank!

How about make them attend rehab to get benefits?

I feel like this is sort of a gray area. I understand your intentions for this policy, and I like it. The thing about benefits such as food stamps and Medicaid is that it is essentially there to help you not just something you should purely live off of forever. I understand that there are times when people can’t get out of that area, but I am not completely educated on this matter. As I said I do like your intentions as it can help those people who truly do need it, but just like any policy there will be pros and cons.

Some people are disabled and cannot put their “big boy/girl pants on” that rely heavily on govemnent benefits such as SSI, Food stamps and section 8 housing. Many Autistic Adults do smoke weed as well to help with their sensory/other issues and if they were to test you to receive benefits, how would that be fair? Not an argument but just letting you know the reality. I get the side of what youre saying where theres people who live off the government forever and never move up in life but theyre perfectly capable of working and doing it. But I feel like this issue isn’t black and white, it would take a lot of resources and time for the government to weed out exactly who is and isnt doing hard drugs or smoking weed which the majority of people on welfare do.

Those that fail the test can get help and assistance during treatment. 3 strike till applies.

I definitely understand this side of the argument I would definitely think that anything your prescribed by a doctor should be exempt but it could get very messy

Absolutely 100% agree. I have to pass to warn for you, you should want to receive it.

Absolutely, the problem is the government themselves have made it to where people are now used to this “free money” and don’t want to actually work. It’s government assistance not a lifestyle.

If you have to pass a drug test to obtain a job, you should absolutely have to have one for a hand out from the government. Will it be costly? No. Bc it will eliminate so many people from receiving government assistance, that it will save the country money. If you can pay for drugs, you can pay your bills

It should also include people on disability because some sell their medications and by testing they should have a certain amount in the blood if they dont that means they are selling the medications and if its to much then they are using it to get high off.
Im on SSI I have COPD and depend on oxygen 24/7 my Dr. has to recertify me every year to show that I am still disabled and depend on oxygen but at 62 Social Security pushed me off straight SSI and i was receiving my SOCIAL SECURITY and partial Disability, but for the last 2 years I have been working so the Disability part is in suspension untill i can no longer work.

How about doing a few randoms during the first year. If they fail one, require them to go to an outpatient program to continue benefits. If they fail again, cut off the benefits.

This would only make sense if the drug tests make sense, which they currently don’t. The testing of THC/Cannabis should end, given how beneficial it can be to some people, and given the nature of THC to stay within our system for a month (person who drinks alcohol before or during work is fine but eating some Cannabis gummies a week ago at the safety and comfort from home isn’t?).

I have to pass random drug tests at work to keep the job that supports these people. WEED is prescribed. Meth, cocaine, heroine are not prescribed. If you have money to feed your habit you can feed yourself.

You have to clarify which drugs you are testing for specifically. Marijuana is legal in most states and therefore shouldn’t be a disqualifying factor. It should only apply to illegal substances.
