Make web scraping, nonconsentual data collecting, and data fishing illegal. Also, make data brokers who collect and sell data without consent illegal.
I agree with you on this. Look at the class action lawsuit that was against apple and apple had to pay the people information only 20. I think that company should have been bank rupted for that. It show everyone that their only care about the money and not the people.
I agree. They put profit before ethics and integrity.
Consent must be voluntary and knowing! You also need to make use of a platform not require consent!
The US Constitution makes no guarantees of privacy despite the Declaration of Independence claims to such a right.
I think that the right to privacy of person and a person’s legal behavior is a natural right. No entity should be able to abridge that right . . . not government, not individuals, not corporations without consent. Further, consent should be very difficult to give . . . equivalent to closing on a mortgage loan requiring witnesses to signatures, etc. Access to the privacy and private acts for purposes of law enforcement should require a court order, preferably one signed by a panel of judges not just an individual.
I’m in no way condoning privacy for any law-breaking or nefarious scheme. I just believe that no entity should be able to trade on what we do as private individuals.
Of course, we would have to do without free access to search engines and social media, but I’d rather pay to use those services than have them build databases that are used by others without my consent or even my knowledge. It’s as bad as - or worse than - Orwell’s big brother.
Would you support an constitutional amendment to grant such a right to privacy to all citizens?
I wouldn’t mind making this into an constitutional amendment. Seems logical to me.
Let it be known that currently the USPS is using EXTORTION to try to get people to reveal to the USPS our home address. They are trying to force franchise owners of UPS stores to collect this information from box renters. They are demanding that if a box renter does not comply, the franchise owner should return their mail as undeliverable. This is a violation of the federal criminal code, 18 USC Sec. 1701-3 and of the Fourth Amendment of the United States Constitution. It also would force them to violate their contracts with box holders. I have been unable to find anyone in government who is willing to put a stop to this. But it must stop. Not only does it penalize the average person, but would make it impossible for homeless people to get mail anywhere and would threaten the safety and security of people who have escaped domestic abuse and are living in a safe location.
Strongly disagree with making web scraping illegal. There are many companies who collect public information and would lock that behind expensive paywalls were it not for web scraping.
Agree with the rest, though.
