Commerical dog breeding facilities, also known as puppy mills, subject thousands of dogs to suffer in small cages usually in their own excrement while being bred repeatedly, the puppies rarely if ever get vet care, and the conditions in most of these facilities are horrendous and cruel and hardly meet the bare minimum. The dogs often have genetic physical and behavioral problems too. The dogs also usually end up in shelters bc the breeders won’t take them back if the owners decide they’re no longer a good fit for their household.
This is true, however, the USDA/government does not do nearly as much to put a stop to this as they could. There are SO many added restrictions that could be implemented to specifically point to these types of operations and make it extremely difficult for them to continue in the manor that they are conducting business.
