Thanks to everyone for contributing to this discussion. We’ve decided that we are going to make votes relative to the total number of policies submitted. New users (Trust Level 1) will receive votes that are roughly equivalent to 0.5% of the total number of policy proposals. Trust Level 2 members will receive votes equivalent to 1% of the total policy proposals.
At the time of this writing we are setting it so that new users receive 20 votes (5 more than originally) and Trust Level 2 members will have 40 votes total (10 more than originally).
We also wanted to speak to the idea behind votes so we recorded a short video:
Video content overview:
The video addresses a common request from the community for more votes to cast on policy ideas. The speaker explains that voting limits will remain in place, though active community members may receive more votes based on their participation levels. The reason for limiting votes is to encourage careful selection of the most important ideas, as each vote carries weight.
In addition to voting, there are other ways to increase the visibility of policies, such as commenting, liking, or sharing ideas on external platforms like social media. The speaker emphasizes that advocating for policies outside the platform is crucial to garnering support, similar to how one would campaign for a political candidate. By doing so, community members can help grow the platform and bring more attention to the ideas they believe in.
Ultimately, the goal is to refine and aggregate policy ideas on this platform, which may eventually gain attention from those in power.
I 100% agree! There are so many good ones! Let the people vote for what they want! I agree with pretty much alot of this! Let us vote for everything we support and like and want! Please!
If you want people to come to this site more than once they should have unlimited votes. I saw your video on this but why is anyone going to come back if they can’t vote again? There are too many topics to limit votes to just 15. Reconsider if you want to gain traction.
Also, the optional tags don’t make sense. Tags should be key words or don’t have a tag.
“How to use this site page” is more like website terms. Need a video showing how to vote, where to pull up policies, how to create a policy, and how do you get votes. Votes should be given and when used up, then participation earns you more votes example: voting, posting comments, interacting with others, and like someone else policy or comment. Example 5 earned votes per 10 interactions. I feel this would get more people involved in the process. Thank you!
This video should really be on the How to use this site! I am older and feel a little confused on the site as to how to use it. I feel what is on the how to use site page right now is terms and should stay, but more added content like when you sign up you get 20 votes to start and go to the policy you want to vote on and click on vote! Let people know votes are limited so vote on things that are very important to you! And that you can earn votes, but they are limited and how to earn more votes thru time on website, time subscribed, or participation! Thank you for your time!
It could be made but it wouldnt be looked at by the next administration, this is supposed to actually be looked at and have an impact of actual legislation
I agree that votes should be based on participation on the website. I will comment on policies, I will “heart” things, but I doubt I will create any policies of my own, there are so many ideas now and different policies my concerns have been addressed by an already proposed policy. With only 20 votes I don’t feel I can even vote for all the things I am concerned about. Please let votes be based on participation, not just policy suggestions!!!
Will you be looking at the possibility of reviewing this policy in the future to account for the number of repeat and undercooked policies that are proposed?
Thats the issue its 15 total unless you spend hours on this app then you get a few more but i think our opinion needs to be heard on every topic. Why wouldnt you want our opinion on every topic? If its a good idea let us vote on it and if it isnt we dont. Pretty simple i feel like.
I’ve run into an issue with the way the vote limit is implemented as is. I agree with the vote limit, just that it seems to be impacting vote contributions/community involvement more as time goes on.
But, that’s only from my own experience, so take it with a grain of salt. Let me explain:
I received Trust Level 2 within a few weeks after joining and I think I have placed my votes mostly on unique and substantial issues that would be good for a government administration to prioritize over others. But, since at least a few weeks ago, I have been coming back to the forum off and on without being able to vote. I think I’ve had to pass over a few more substantial issues in that time.
I don’t know if there are more trust levels for users to gain more votes. But either way, I think it would be beneficial to slowly give users more votes, either by reducing requirements for trust levels beyond level 2 or, what I would suggest, by drip-feeding users votes through community involvement. For example, every hour spent reading the forum, every 20 posts read, or every consecutive day you logon to the forum gives 1 extra vote.
Then again, maybe you don’t want to give more voting power to users simply based on involvement on the forum. With that said, it may be better to slowly give users more votes so that they are always “in demand” and users are more likely to carefully consider what they vote on, while also encouraging them to read more contributions by doing so.
Limiting votes is foolish. When a measure or a referendum or such are put on a ballot does the county/state/fed select only certain Americans who can vote? No. Every American should be able to vote on every policy proposal, only once of course. If I was a leader why would I look at this? It doesn’t represent the people. I had high hopes for this platform. But seeing limited votes…I am off. Utterly useless in the current format. We will have to rely on Trump and team’s innate brilliance, this site sure isn’t going to help them. Have a good one.
