Forbid TV drug commercials /and require financial disclosures from doctors

Yessssss. I get so mad when I see pills on TV. You can’t have a cigarette commercial and it has way less harmful side effects than most pharmaceutical drugs. Insanity.

Absolutely!! Also, drug company reps lobbying their medication to physicians. No more entire facility lunches (yes it happens), Starbucks runs, filling cabinets full of meds!! The average daily lunch cost 35-40 personnel was $700-1300. We were booked out 4 months for the drug reps. Oh we got breakfast too.

I’d suggest requiring doctors to spend more time on food as medicine and lifestyle changes for health things than being what I consider them - legal drug dealers.
Yes, its easier to pop a pill, but lifesyle changes I believe are the answer to a good deal of the issues. I realize there are times that medications are needed. That should be the exception, not the rule.
How many people have their own personal pharmacy that can reduce or wlikinate the majority of those pills with a lifestyle change?

On the surface I agree it doesn’t make much sense to market prescription drugs directly to the public, until you realize it’s real purpose is to funnel huge dollars to the media, in effect paying for favorable coverage of the pharmaceutical companies.

I would also recommend that we should ban government agencies and pharmacies from advertising vaccines on TV and other media outlets.
Although, I am not sure why we are allowing pharmacies to administer vaccines.

I very much disagree with this. I love pharmaceutical advertisements each time I see one I will watch it to the end and I know that’s a drug that I will never take. These pharmaceutical ads have been on for a very long time now and at the end of them they always give you a long list of side effects and most of them are pretty bad I’m glad to know this that way if my doctor says the name of it for whatever reason I am informed enough to say there’s no way in hell I’m taking that crap.

Ban financial incentives from the gov’t or pharms on prescribing vaccines or other medications.

Banning advertising direct to consumers has to go. This is a nearly impossible task as so many in Congress are on the dole with the drug companies. If this can be regulated by the executive branch that would be the only way I think it might work. We have to stop this direct adverting.

I 100% agree with this. I think USA is one of the only if not the only that allows pharmaceuticals to advertise their drugs on TV and radio.

Definitely in favor of severely limiting or banning pharmaceutical commercials on television, radio and other media.

In terms of disclosure limiting the pharmaceutical company’s ability to pay physicians based on volume prescribed seems a better plan than requiring physicians to disclose kickbacks. This is worth lots more discussion re the pros and cons!

Why should doctors receive payment from anyone other than for service to their patients? Doctors should not be able to receive any third-party payments, and especially not from parties who profit from sickness not health.

Is a sports referee allowed to receive payment from people who are betting on the game?

We are one of very few places that put medication on the tv. I back this 100%!

I totally agree with this. Prescription drug adds are useless. I believe all they do is make money for the pharmaceutical company. Doctors who receive kickbacks are more than happy to let a patient try “X” drug. If it’s new it will be more expensive than older drugs usually. Big pharma has gone way off the rails in what they get away with.

Do Doctors Currently Make Money from Prescriptions?

I thought this was handled after the Oct issue:

Direct Compensation for Prescriptions is Generally Illegal: Under laws like the Anti-Kickback Statute and Stark Law, it is illegal for doctors to receive direct payments in exchange for prescribing specific medications. These laws are designed to prevent conflicts of interest that could harm patients.

Indirect Payments are Common: While direct kickbacks are illegal, pharmaceutical companies often compensate doctors indirectly. For example, doctors might be paid to conduct research, participate in speaking engagements, or serve as consultants. These relationships can sometimes influence prescribing patterns, even if indirectly.

The “Open Payments” Database: The U.S. government’s Open Payments database (part of the Physician Payments Sunshine Act) requires drug and device companies to report payments to doctors. This database allows the public to see if a doctor has financial ties to pharmaceutical companies, providing some transparency, but not all patients are aware of or use it.

I stopped watching TV and listening to the radio because of the endless, awful drug commercial’s. Most drugs more harm than good. Get these industries out of our lives.:heart:

I was always so disturbed by the endless listing of side effects for every drug. Its awful! Yuck! They ruined radio, TV, everything!
