Anyways, we are supposed to sleep with the sun So we should get rid of the winter one, not the summer one
Move the time 30 min between abd leave it be
After WWII, my mother said businesses changed their hours of operation seasonally. That could be a great option when we make DST hrs permanent. The twice a year change disrupts sleep for approximately two weeks; for what. I have yet to hear anyone who begs to keep it except the politicians. Why is that? We ask Policies for the People instead of policies for the politicians. Thank you.
I agree. End it now. There is no reason we need an extra hour of darkness.
End Daylight Saving! Place everyone on standard time because it’s better for our health. There is no reason to have it light out until 10 pm during summer months. How is it better for people to get less sleep? Children aren’t going to bed until late. Parents parents don’t go to bed until children go to bed. Everyone still gets up for work and daycare in the early hours. Oh but thank goodness we have extra sunshine so we’re all dragging every morning. It’s nonsense. Changing the clocks around for no reason. I don’t see how this supposedly helps farmers. They have worked well enough in the normal daylight hours for hundreds of years before without issue
I LOVE Daylight Savings Time. I look forward to it every year.
Please stop this Daylight Savings time craziness
Ending daylight saving time (DST) offers several potential benefits, including:
-
Improved Health and Sleep: The sudden shift in time disrupts sleep patterns, often leading to sleep deprivation and associated health risks, including higher rates of heart attacks and strokes immediately after the time change. A consistent time can promote healthier sleep cycles.
-
Enhanced Productivity and Mood: Many people report feeling groggy or irritable after the time change. Eliminating DST can lead to more stable routines, which may improve overall mood and productivity.
-
Reduced Accident Rates: Studies show that road accidents and workplace injuries spike after the clocks are changed. Keeping a consistent time could lead to fewer accidents by avoiding the drowsiness caused by the time shift.
-
Energy Savings Debate: While DST was originally intended to save energy, modern research suggests the impact is minimal or even negligible. A consistent time schedule could provide a more reliable baseline for energy usage.
-
Simplicity and Consistency: Many find adjusting clocks and planning around different time zones during DST transitions inconvenient and confusing. Ending DST would simplify time management and reduce potential scheduling issues, especially for international business and travel.
Ending DST can bring more stability to people’s daily lives by reducing disruptions, improving health outcomes, and streamlining schedules.
I agree. Spring forward and stay there!
Although I strongly support the proposal to stop changing the clocks twice a year, I am not in favor of choosing permanent DST +1 hour. That would have a disastrous impact on citizens of northern latitudes in the winter. In Seattle, sunrise would be 8:55 am, that seems preposterous. So if we are going to pick one, let’s go with Permanent Standard Time. Or, kick it back to the States, and let each state’s voters have a referendum to decide.
I agree. Let’s have permanent Standard time.
DST Was Initially Started ago Allow Farmers More Time To Do Their Work. Some States Have Already Stopped Using It. I Agree Just Leave The Time Alone. Thank You For Posting This Issue🇺🇸
YES PLEASE do away with changing the clocks. Lets spring forward in 2025 then leave it alone.
came here just to say this! It’s miserable getting off work into darkness. I think the overwhelming majority of people want to get rid of it! Spring forward and stay there!
I completely disagree. Daylight saving time is what we have in the summertime when it doesn’t get dark until after 9 p.m. As the days shorten toward the end of the summer and through fall, it gets dark where I live at around 7 or 7:30. Then Standard time hits, and before you know it, it’s dark at 5:30!
So, I guess everyone who loves Standard time also likes paying extra for electricity and, depending upon where you live, extra fuel bills, too, because when the sun goes down there’s no sun beating through the windows to help heat the house. They like coming home from work in the dark and being unable to do anything outside once they get there.
Sign me up for full-time Daylight Saving.
Ruth,
I disagree about a 30 min time change for the US. I work in IT and our company and hundreds of others are on the phone or Zoom meetings with our colleagues around the world: UK, EU, EMEA, Asia, Japan, MENA. Everybody is on the top of the hour at the same time except one: India is offset by 30 minutes. It makes it stupidly confusing trying to orgazine a call if it’s 7:00 in one time zone and 4:30 in the other one. So let’s not do that. Let’s either stay on standard, or stay on DST. I live in Florida and we have tons of daylight, I don’t “need more”, so I would stay on Standard.
Thank you sharing your tid bit on history. I have read your posted article, and shared the information with my family and friends.
The entire group still feels it is unnecessary. Americans work schedules and lives are all different. The times for businesses to open and close are very also. The need for daylight savings is more a bother then a help. Many of us live around the country now, as we are military. However, I grew up in Arizona with only my grandparents, my mother and two aunts. Friends of mine and my family members are all still very close today and many more around the country due to military life style.
We do not have daylight savings time in Arizona. All of us who have left dont see any benefits, only nuisance. I have yet to meet someone who sees benefit in it. Some like falling back as it is easy to wake up for a few weeks, but springing forward is horrible.
We get history and tradition. We just feel there are many more traditions worth way more that we should be holding on to.
Agreement. It would be ideal to allow everyone to keep/maintain their own sleep cycles without having to forward/backward a jolting hour-offset twice a year. Let the days unfold according to their season for all people. These forced time offsets not only affect workers, but entire families and their children’s sleep cycles.
I think this is where the sushine act is in the process of getting rid of DST.
As of November 12, 2024, the United States Congress has not enacted legislation to make daylight saving time (DST) permanent. In March 2022, the Senate unanimously passed the Sunshine Protection Act, which aimed to establish permanent DST nationwide. However, the bill did not advance in the House of Representatives and therefore did not become law.
Subsequent efforts to pass similar legislation have been made. In March 2023, a group of bipartisan senators reintroduced the Sunshine Protection Act, seeking to end the biannual clock changes. Despite these initiatives, the bill has not progressed through Congress, and the current system of switching between standard time and daylight saving time remains in effect.
It’s important to note that while the Senate has shown support for permanent DST, the House of Representatives has not yet taken action to pass the necessary legislation. Therefore, the practice of changing clocks twice a year continues across most of the United States.
Yes, end the flip flop on the clock.
