Education is a state and local responsibility. Federal government has no constitutional authority to oversee education. Ever since they got involved in the 1960’s, education outcomes have gone down the toilet. Too many graduates now can hardly read and have no functional numeracy. The Department of Education must be completely eliminated.
Why are you talking about Christian education? Just because our Constitution assumes the God of the Bible, and is the basis of our freedom in this country does not “mean” support for returning public education to the states alone is “forcing Christian education on anyone.” That’s not even logical to assume. But it is disingenuous to act like every American isn’t benefiting from the Christian worldview that birthed their inalienable rights.
His response called for “Answer a fool according to his folly lest he be wise in his own eyes.”
Every person has a worldview, which IS their “religion” (moral compass), so give me a break with the old tired,secular-religious whine that so called “religious people” (aka Christians) should not be able to make any moral statements or judgments or have any voice in government just because you don’t like the biblical standard they use. Your (or anyone’s) personal standard makes you (them) your (their) own “god” with the assumption everyone should be subject to your (their) own opinion, at least Christians and Jews use the same objective standard (Ten Commandments). You don’t have to agree, but you love the benefits this worldview affords you here in America which allows for self government, go read de Tocqueville. Your statement is pretty hypocritical.
I like how you didn’t answer my main argument which was that of poor states and poor families and their struggle of education.
Separation of church and state is not part of our constitution. That is an intentional misrepresentation and an utterly false predicate.
Our constitution was based on Christian values period. Anyone who says otherwise has been lied to as have generations of Americans with public school education.
What’s the first amendment then?
Enlighten thyself.
Please. Refute the claim of and I quote
“make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof,” thus building a wall of separation between Church & State"
I will enlight myself with the words written by our founders
Well said. Not only is this a bureaucratic waste of money, you can’t find it in the Constitutional powers of the Fed Govt., as listed in Art 1 Sec 8. So that Dept. is illegal in the first place.
I fully support a complete overhaul and reform in our education system.
I do believe that Parents should have a greater role in that education, however, I believe social interaction & community aspects as well as the diversity of communal education is required.
The Bible as well as other SACRED Literature (aka Intro. to Religious Studies somewhere perhaps around age 12) ought to be introduced to kids but no particular ONE ONLY view is required.
Dept. of Education is a FARCE! States should regulate children’s education, with good oversight. NO Gov. freeloaders like we have now. If parents want to homeschool a GOOD tax deduction should be offered
There is a lot of anti-Christian persecution these days. Curriculum needs students reviewing movies/books/music where students can see and feel love. I would then have them review that material in the context of their personal relationship with God.
For instance:
Watch these clips from Oliver. The woman singing in the first song, then does literally do anything, she a boy who everyone thought to be worthless, and was killed for it. This is perfect analogy of the love God for each of us.
For kids, the curriculm might for instance say… Pretend that God incarnated as Nancy. But God never let Nancy know that she was God…
- At the day of judgement, would you trust Nancy to be the judge of all souls? And why?
- Would all the humans that have ever existed respect Nancy’s decision?
- What else could be done?
- Ask about Jesus two commandments. Love God with all your heart, mind and soul (because clearly God loves us). And treat others as you would be treated. Now explain how both of these commandments are really about love. And if God loves us, is it right to count our blessings through the day and love him back?
Melissa, I don’t broadbrush, of course there are great teachers who care, many of you. I am a former teacher, too, and a former trustee. I am volunteering with at risk boys in our community and tutoring a fifth grade boy who can’t read twice a week trying to save him from a grim future.
And there are parents who don’t give a damn. That is not the kids’ fault.
Just saying, we spend more and more money every year, and our results go down and down every year. The system is broken. It’s not working. Can’t we try something new? Something more?
I am a teacher and see the problems everyday. I agree that the Dept. of Education needs to be dissolved because it is inefficient. The states need the money to address their unique problems. What some people do not realize is how schools and teaching has changed. We feed, counsel, babysit, clothe, provide supplies, transport, provide parenting services, provide before school and after school enrichment, special education, bilingual education, etc. and basically fill in where ever families need extra support. Mental health and behavioral issues are out of control. Without fixing these issues, we can never move forward with academics.
Michelle, you are right and it’s not a good thing. The government has taken over the responsibility of dads. A single mom with four kids can get between $713 and $973 per month from SNAP. Is it any wonder most single moms and their kids are grossly obese? You have to work hard to spend that much money on food, so copious amounts of junk food is the norm for them. This is just one policy failure. Don’t get me started on the damage government has done to the nuclear family and the devastating results of these policies. Teachers are victims of this insanity.
Yes! Something else I forgot to mention. Free meals in California are better than starving but not much. Schools do their best but the quality of the food is terrible for most kids. My class comes from free breakfast hyper as can be because of the sugar content. I am hopeful about the new food goals with the incoming administration!
