We need to constitutionally cap the size of the supreme court at 9 justices. Term limits at staggered terms, three 3 yr terms congressman. Repeal the 17th amendment, return the senate vote to the state houses and limit senators to two 5 year terms.
and return the rights the states were granted under the constitution.
Call a Convention of the States to Limit the Scope, Power and Jurisdiction of the Federal Government
We have to elect good people at all levels of government, but those we send to DC are working in a broken system. Both parties are to blame. The founders knew we would reach this point and that is precisely why they gave We the People a tool in Article V to bypass Congress and get amendments they will never do on their own.
Our effort transcends any one President or election cycle. Both parties are to blame for the +35T debt, for instance. No one will save us. It is up to us. This is one of the checks-and-balances we should use to save our federal republican form of government, and return the power to the states and out of the hands of the federal government.
Congress has proven that it is incapable of policing itself and doing what is right for our nation. It’s time for a Convention of States to rein in Congress and preserve our nation. We need term limits, fiscal responsibility, and an end to the largest laundering scheme in the history of the world.
100% correct!!
Bring the powers to administer back to state level so that each state can preserve their uniqueness and character, and endorse term limits to administrators. The founding fathers envisioned committed citizens to temporarily serve their constituents and then return to their rightful vocation in their communities.
As Americans, we need to support this COS regardless of who wins the election in Nov 2024.
Is this what we want? “limiting Representatives to three terms and Senators to two terms”?

I think a Convention of States is the only way to make meaningful changes to the way Congress and Senate approach significant issues… Congress will never approve term limits, balanced budget, etc. I see several issues listed on this forum that need to be combined into a single issue for voting.
Washington, DC is broken and it will NEVER fix itself. God bless the Framers of our Constitution for giving us this legal and proper solution!
The only way to rein in the federal government is to use the tool the founding fathers gave us. If you believe the federal government has taken control of too many things we never granted to them, needs term limits on its officials, and is spending too much money, the only way to remove that power is by using Article V to amend the Constitution. We want to survive as a healthy, robust and successful nation, but most of all as a GODLY nation. These limits and boundaries will help us do that.
Yes, and thank you. I do understand the trigger and the 2/3 and 3/4 requirements. I agree with the policy and your position and voted for it. However:
With respect, my concern is the words in Article V, “propose amendments.” Considering the current divide in this country, if 2/3 or 34 states agree to call a convention, any state could propose an amendment(s) to add, delete, or modify any amendments) - the door is open - theoretically, you could rewrite the Constitution. I understand that it would then require 3/4 ratification or 37 states.
There are those more lenient factions, and I can think of several legislative bodies that would love to get a bite of the apple and pass a “term limits amendment” in exchange for a vote to modify the Second Amendment or even add an amendment to protect “reproductive freedom,” as it is now called. Each amendment would require a 3/4 vote, but why would one faction compromise?
I trust the basic Article V process, but considering the divide and abuses in politics, at this point, I don’t know if I trust those who will show up to a convention. There needs to be transparency, not secrecy, as in the original Constitutional Convention—I understand the rationale for that in 1787, but the tenor is vastly different today.
The convention will then be a rancorous meeting, most likely ending in a stalemate, as the more lenient state legislators will never agree without compromise and will not ratify anything unfavorable to them. They know you will not get what you want without their vote, and they would not think twice about walking away. The current issue is that the lenient faction would rather see it crash than compromise. Their historical behavior over the last 12 years appears (at least to me) to indicate this perspective.
This strategy has been clearly shown in the House and Senate. For example, with its Article I, Section 3, Clause 6 powers, the Senate dismissed the House’s Impeachment without allowing the presentation of evidence. It was DOA due to the D’s majority in the Senate. The Senate and its majority continually block the R majority in many issues unless it’s giving money to foreign countries.
Juxtapose the Ds control of the House with an R President in 2017-2020 and then with a D President and R House as we have now. For eight years, we have had logjams, unprecedented lawfare, and political retaliation against dissenters daring to speak up.
Congress and the country are divided with an intransigent party and a sizable portion of the population unwilling to compromise. This behavior and the rhetoric of those aligned do not signal a favorable resolution without a compromise, one likely worse than the beautiful historical document we have now.
The Article V process is designed to be rigorous and provide for a broad consensus among all states. That consensus is not evident in the general population or Congress and likely will not be at a convention.
This is just my concern and perspective. I agree with the concept of this policy; I prefer the status quo (our current Constitution), considering the current state and the divergent perspectives of this country’s trajectory.
We are at a crossroads.
Additional ideas for amendments -
- Strip funding from or eliminate entirely the 438 federal alphabet agencies & sub-agencies, such as the IRS, DOJ, FBI, CIA, NSA, DHS, DOE, EPA, ATF, TTB, CDC, FDA, OMH, ORR, etc.
- Institute a state electoral college.
- Require the federal govt. submit to an annual audit by all 50 states.
- Give every tax paying citizen full control over how their tax money is spent.
- Implement proof of citizenship & passing grade on a civics test as pre-requisites to vote in any election.
Well put! It’s time for the parent to act like the parent and withdraw privileges.
The Federal government spending must be restrained. The interest payment on national debt is growing faster than our GDP. This is not sustainable and will bankrupt our nation. True, they can and will print more money…but its value will decline via inflation. The wealth of our nation and citizens is moving away from prosperity and toward poverty. FISCAL RESTRAINTS MUST BE IMPOSED ON THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT!
Our Founders foresaw the likelihood of a tyrannically bloated federal government. It’s time for state legislators to exercise their power to collectively reclaim “states’ rights”.
Yes! An Article V convention will help us limit the federal government and bring the power back to the people where it belongs.
Yes we need term limits ! Same reason we shouldn’t have a president or mayor for 30 plus years is same reason we shouldn’t have a senator or congressman for 30 plus years .
I believe we need to consider ways to reduce government overuse of document/information classification because it is now being used to hide nefarious and/or political information. We need to have the COS understand the original purpose of document classification and then draw up common sense usage policy that can then be written into a proposed amendment.
