submitted 2 merge recommendations last week and haven’t seen anything come of them. Do I need to do anything else?
We will take a close look at these tomorrow!
Thank you! Is it true that RFK looks at this site?
My concern about this website is that, although it is likely well intentioned, there’s at least a reasonable chance it will turn into another waste of time. Unless various political staff occasionally weigh in and make clear that certain issues developed here were deemed to be compellingly strong and thus are now going to become policy via certain statutes, it’ll be just another chat site that amounts to little more than a time sink. Time will tell of course. If you happen to have counterarguments, I’m all ears of course.
I 2nd this.
No counterargument I’m largely predicting the same thing.
Not only due to the fact we’ve basically been told that only the policies with thousands of votes will get any real decision maker’s attention, the site itself does little to help organize a workflow for thousands of people to collaborate over thousands of ideas.
I’m pretty certain “a very loud local minority” will end up dominating the space. That’s what all the incentive structures are built around. Perhaps a handful of factions will be able to upvote all their own ideas as the vy for meaningful attention be given to their policy brilliance.
I’d much prefer a site that organized itself around a tree of lots of little ideas that people could weigh in on that eventually lead up to policy proposals and provide polling on what people think about each link in the large reasoning chains that lead up to being for or against certain policy proposals.
A lot of people don’t understand why things are the way they currently are so policy discussions sometimes turn into history lessons or philosophy discussions.
Ideas like the popular vote should control the election of the President (getting rid of the electoral college), we should regulate online hate speech (eliminate first amendment), mandate compulsory participation in some kind of military service or ending the selective service or adding women to the selective service (debate on value structures for managing civic duty and service to the country).
I’d love to see hierarchically organizing the users into chambers of say 10-20 people each, each chamber elects a couple representatives for the next higher chamber level up, making another group level of 10-20 per chamber, then repeat that until you get to a top level chamber of 10-20 that are regularly in contact with actual decision makers. The lowest level chambers are largely intended to be echo chambers so that ideas, policies, and the philosophies behind them can be cultivated amongst people who largely agree on the foundational principles. You could also consider them akin to caucuses.
You don’t only need to organize the information, you need to organize the people producing and transforming the information, you need to be able to filter for the “high quality” information across the people space and consolidate it so the people at the top aren’t overwhelmed with the voices of thousands… You also need to ensure that all of the lowly plebs have a shot at having their voices/opinions be represented up to the powers that be.
That’s why the representative chambers are so small and intended to have lots of ideological (and ideally also geographical) overlap, it makes it easier to provide representation for a set of like minded people to consolidate the information as it moves up the representative levels .
Can you add a way to leave a conversation?
When a Conversation has veered way off the discussion of possible policy changes, its just time to move on.
This is fantastic and exactly what we, the people, need, deserve, and demand in our current society. Many of the systems we have trusted, and those we have empowered to serve them, have lost their way. I hope we never see the option to buy votes or unlock levels, as the influence of money leads to control and manipulation.
Here here, also Chinese Goods are most often of poor quality and soon end up in the garbage anyway. I myself fell for the low price scam only to find that most all of what I was purchasing would not even work , broke in a few days or was made of harmful toxic materials. One example: I ordered an electrical component from a chine E seller to fix an appliance, installed, put in service, and within minutes the part caught on fire. Then after fixing that damage I spent a little more, replaced with OEM part and it’s now working great again. Super low price=factory rejects.
Recommendation for Improving Tag Visibility on Mobile Devices:
Problem: The current tagging feature does not allow users to see the entire tag text on mobile devices, which can be frustrating and limit the effectiveness of the tags, especially when they are long or descriptive.
Suggested Solutions:
1. Horizontal Scrolling: Enable horizontal scrolling within the tag display area. This would allow users to swipe left or right to view the full text of longer tags without affecting the overall layout of the app.
2. Expandable Tags: Allow users to tap on a truncated tag to see the full text. For example, tapping the tag could expand it briefly or show the complete text in a pop-up tooltip.
3. Text Wrapping: Implement text wrapping for tags, so that longer tags automatically adjust to display on multiple lines, making the full text visible without needing additional interaction.
Thank you. Enjoy the site. Learning curve for sure, it’s ok. Let’s fix it!
Thanks for this site and allowing the voices of the “uneducated” be heard.
Good morning, could you all add a tag for Department of Family and Children Services, foster care, and adoption?
Thank you!
Is there a way to report trolls and such?
Look for the gray flag at the bottom right of every post, you can use that to report.
Thank you! Just came back after a break
